Current lead times for all services remain unchanged at present, and if turnaround times need to be extended, we will advise you at the appropriate time. 

Parcels will continue to be despatched on the relevant due dates, however, if your business is closing and you would prefer us to retain your parcel during the lockdown, please notify us as soon as possible by emailing Likewise, if you wish to change the despatch address, please notify us.

Opening Hours
Monday - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Tuesday - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Wednesday - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Thursday - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Friday - 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Customer Services
To reduce waiting times for our customers, we will be increasing staffing levels to meet demands. Please note, we will continue to work to the social distancing guidelines set out by Government, and we would also ask our customers to kindly adhere to the same guidelines whilst within the Customer Services area.

We recommend avoiding the busiest times to reduce your waiting time.

Peak hours : 9.00am-10.30am and last thing 1.30pm – 3.00pm
NEW - Appointment Service & Drive Through Facility
If you would like to use our appointment service and drive through facility please call 0121 592 1205 to arrange.
Express Service 
Express Service usually needs to be booked in by 9:30 am, however, the cut off will be flexible depending on demand for this service.

Royal Mail/Courier deliveries

We are receiving Royal Mail Special delivery parcels on the days that we are operational and we can also despatch parcels back to you by Royal Mail.  Similarly, we can also accept deliveries and despatch deliveries by Courier.

Birmingham Assay Office was founded in 1773 to provide assaying (testing) and hallmarking of precious metal items (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) as required by the Hallmarking Act.

It has been a centre of expert opinion and independent assessment of jewellery and precious metals for nearly 250 years.
